56th Street Round Table: What does it mean to be(come) an American?
For this year's first 56th Street Round Table, we'll be discussing the topic "What does it mean to be(come) an American?"  Each year, tens of thousands of refugees from all over the world, driven from their home countries by war, famine, violence or religious persecution, are granted entry into the United States, where they begin a new journey towards American citizenship.  In a country whose foundation is built upon immigration, what are the experiences of those who will become the newest generation of Americans?
